First Ironbarks Printmaking Summer School

In January 2008 Marianne was one of three printmakers, - the others being Tim Winters and Mary Dorahey, involved in organizing and delivering the First Ironbarks Printmaking Summer School at Stuart Town in the Central West of NSW.

Participants immersed themselves in a week of teaching sessions covering Western and Japanese methods of relief printmaking with Tim , 'non-toxic' etching on aluminium, and caustic etching on lino with Mary and collagraph plate making and printing techniques with Marianne. But while each tutor focused on a particular technique, participants were all encouraged to combine techniques to make multi-plate images. The week concluded on Friday evening with a celebratory exhibition of participants' work.

The Summer School built on local interest generated by the Bathurst 2006 'Pressing Issues' printmaking conference hosted by the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.  It was held in the workshop rooms of the Ironbarks Creative Arts Centre located in the town's renovated Railway Hotel dating back to the gold rush days and was also generously supported by the Orange Regional Arts Foundation.

Based on the event's success we are keen to make the Printmaking Summer School a regular event on the printmaking calendar! This has since happened and we are now planning our 3rd Summer school.
