PRINTS: SPIRIT TREE

In the Central West of New South Wales the original Aboriginal people traditionally marked the burial places of honoured members of the tribe with one or more carved trees. The designs were cut through the bark of living trees. Now, nearly 200 years since the last carvings were done, those trees still living have grown over the carvings and hide their secrets deep within. In these works I wanted to capture the sense of secret history and lost knowledge together with the feeling of enduring spiritual power in the land.
